All fees are set in accordance with surveys conducted by Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) and the Alberta Speech-Language Association of Private Practitioners (ASAPP). Rates are set based on practitioner training, experience, business overhead, time required for professional service, and the complexity and scope of the service.
Based on the January 2017 ASAPP survey results, clients can expect to pay within a range of $115 - $160 per hour for speech-language pathology services in Alberta, Canada. Please visit www.asapp.ca for more information.
All fees are charged in Canadian dollars.
Currently, Alberta Health Care does not provide coverage for private speech-language pathology serivces.
However, most extended health care plans (group insurance plans) do provide some coverage for these services. Insurance plans vary, so please refer to your specific plan for details. Speech-language services are typically categorized with services such as physiotherapy and psychology. Speech-language services may be listed as "Speech-Language Pathology" or "Speech Therapy".
Clients are responsible for submitting their own reimbursement requests to their insurance provider.
For accent modification services, some employers may cover therapy fees through their employee training programs. Contact your employer to inquire if this might apply to you.
Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CRA) consideres fees paid to a private speech-language pathologist to be a tax-deductible medical expense.
There is no charge for cancelled appointments if cancelled 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time.
If the therapist travels to the scheduled appointment and the client is not available or not present, a missed appointment fee will be charged.
